Vorobyov sounds like an interesting project. Over the last two years, it is nice to really see a change in the way the Flyers draft, especially in the later rounds.

Bill,

I know that the Flyers told Morin to work mainly on the defensive side of his game this past season, which it looks like he did (aside from being deterred from the broken jaw and subsequent recovery period). However, I just want, for the final time (I know I asked at different points during the season), to bring up what you said about Ryan Parent: to paraphrase, "An good defensive NHL player should be able to produce in juniors simply due to natural skill." Did Morin, in your estimation, pass that bar this past season (38 GP, 5G, 27A, +26)? I think those are respectable numbers for a guy like him, just wanted to get your take.

Question for Bill:

How long does Philadelphia own Vorobyov' draft rights? I know it's usually two years, and NCAA players get until they graduate, but what are the rules for KHL signed players?

It is nice to see the Flyers branch out not only in the draft, but in the coaching ranks to cast a wide net for options.

hopefully the infusion of all the recently acquired russian players will make a guy like vorobyov feel more comfortable coming and playing here.

Good point, I think the argument could be made that teams like DET and WAS have attempted to do just that. Now if the hack media will just leave them alone

seriously i was thinking that may have been the reason behind the seemingly odd decision to add 33 yo medvedev to an already crowded blueline.....hexy may just be as good as we all hope he will be

2008: The Flyers announce the hiring of Eric Desjardins as a player development coach.

Is Rico still employed by the team?

Yes, I think he developed fine offensively at that level.

Right now there is still no transfer agreement with the Russian Hockey Federation, so the NHL team holds the player's rights indefinitely. Supposedly an agreement is close (but that's been said for months), which would make transfers more systematic on one hand but also put more specific time limits on the signing window.

I suspect it could end up being four years.

Vorobyov could be good and ready when our D prospects are up and running and that wave of homegrown talent is tearing it up in O&B.

Not that you asked for my take, but those numbers are better on a per game basis than what Josh Morrisey produced (47 GP, 13 G, 25 A, +1). So they are more than respectable.

True, but Morrissey played the first half of the year on a piss-poor Prince Albert team. However, given that his production was fairly consistent whether he was on Prince Albert or Kelowna takes away some merit. But yes, that is a good point, although I think that those numbers are more of an abberation than the norm for Morrissey given his prior 3 seasons.

Agree with your point that Morin showed encouraging growth on the o-side this season, but it's just really tough to compare across leagues like that.

Better to compare him to his peers in the Q:
